Managed Isolation Facilities
We now have three hotels in Rotorua serving as managed isolation facilities. Ibis opened in late June, followed by Sudima and then Rydges in late July.
Key staff involved with organising the DHB’s health response to the facilities are based in the Regional Isolation Quarantine Control Centre (RIQCC) in Rotorua.
Lakes DHB has employed wellbeing navigators to support guests and provide administration support for guests in managed isolation. . This support can include helping guests access essential non-food items, child educational needs and ensuring they are able to connect with other agencies and services. These roles start late this week, with the staff being located in each of the three managed isolation facilities in Rotorua.
A DHB clinical nurse manager has been seconded to manage the healthcare response used in the three facilities, with COVID testing carried out on days three and 12 of the returnees’ stay.
As at Tuesday 4 August, 1207 guests have been accommodated in the three hotels, with nine of that number having tested positive.
All staff operating in the MIFs have been trained on proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and will follow stringent health and safety measures to keep our community safe, along with other security measures including fencing, and on-site police and security staff.
